Business Name - ARGH
Can I just vent that my head hurts after days of trying to figure out a business name.....

Nothing seems to just HIT me.

Any advice would be helpful, this is me right now .

Everything I LOVE is taken, everything I come up with sounds silly or just isnt right.

I know I just need patience but I need to get my EIN and stuff going because my partner is doing a Virtual Customer Service company through another virtual company and we need to provide them the info.

The partner has NO input. Its just me!

Was it really hard for you to decide?

What is your niche? Maybe that might help.

Hi Danielle,

Welcome to VAF!

Have you looked through the threads in the Branding section in which you posted your question? I say this because a quick look by me showed that there have been quite a few discussions about naming a business. Many ideas beget other ideas and so on.

I remember posting tips on naming a business some time ago. They key is to begin brainstorming. I suggest that you start to brainstorm with a pad a paper.

A quick google and I found this article, 'How to Name Your Business and this one How to Create a Great Business Name

Start with your services, your own name, your niche, your target market, decide if you want to use the word 'virtual' or not. Start putting words into phrases.

If you want to post back here with some samples of what you have come up with, we will jump in and voice our opinions and give you suggestions.

Start with 'I can find a name for my business' and the rest will come to you. As frustrating as it may be, this is where you need to spend the time and not rush it. Your name will reflect who you are and you want people to remember you. Consider the time spent on a name, a tagline and a logo as an investment in your business and be prepared, because this is just the tip of the iceberg in being a successful entrepreneur.

Good Luck and post back...I'll be happy to help.

Janine

I agree with Janine. Get a pad of paper and carry it around with you. Write down your thoughts. Add words, change words. Try putting things into GoDaddy. They will tell you if the domain is available and will suggest different names. Then you have to sleep on it, change it again, sleep on it again. It is a process that is frustrating to all of us. Let us know your suggestions and we will give our opinions. We are good at giving opinions!!

I also have a bit of a different philosophy, but I'm also not sure how it might work for your state (I'm in Canada), my husband and I both have our own businesses but we started Rp3 Enterprises (boring yes) but each of our own personal businesses are DBA's or doing business as, his business is Rp3 FlyFishing and mine Redhead Business Solutions. Why this works for us is it allows to add additional business or revenue streams without having the need for a new business.

Maybe this might be a feasible approach for you? Go with something not so exciting maybe something like "your lastname" enterprises, or a combination of your first names, or our pets name whatever. This gives you an operational business name, but also let's you take the time to get more creative for your "true business name"

No of course you need to check with an accountant to see what the best business structure might be for you, but this is what has worked for my husband and I and it might work for you.

When I read the subject I thought you were gong to name your business "ARGH"

Your tag line could be "Overworked? Just Scream and We'll be There"

Those are super cute.

I came up with Pura Vida Technologies - tagline would be something like we help so you can get back to life ...or something better than that.

Partner nixed it.
