Question New but not new

Hi all,

I have been dabbling in the VA area for a year now, I have had 1 steady client since I started and 4 off and on in the last 4 months. I have not really known what to do to recieve additional clients. I have been recieving clients from a VA company that I work with. I would like to recieve some on my own. I love bookkeeping and would love for that to be one of my niche's. but I do not know how to get into it exactly. Can anyone help?!!

Thanks

Do you have a website where you could promote your bookkeeping niche? Have you asked your clients if they can give you the name of three people that might benefit from bookkeeping services? Have you posted an ad on Craigslist?

Those are a few things I'd do to get started.

Hi Jessica Welcome!
Sue's right on - it's all about promoting your services regardless of your niche - marketing, marketing, marketing! It's definitely a bit of work to get your name out there but is well worth the time and is ultimately an investment in the future of your business.

I understand wanting to get out from under an agency and branch out on your own - check out the Marketing section for some ideas of what others are doing to get their businesses 'out there' and attract clients.

Jessica,

Welcome and congratulations on your first clients. Are you interested in working locally or strictly non-locallly? I have local clients but focus the majority of my marketing non-locally. My local clients I still do from my office, there is just some other things they expect since I'm right here.

Let me know where you want to focus and I can give you some tips and ideas. Plus read the marketing forum that Tess mentioned, you'll get lots of tips there.

One thing with having bookkeeping as your niche is preparing ahead of time with how you will share documents and files. There are a couple recent threads in this area that discuss that. Have you already determined how to do the file sharing?

Good luck!
