Default Twitter Means Business by Julio Ojeda-Zapata

Twitter Means Business: How microblogging can help or hurt your company by Julio Ojeda-Zapata offers great insights into the relatively new social networking platform called Twitter. Before reading this book, I’d heard mentions of Twitter but wasn’t convinced that I needed to take time out of my busy schedule to sign up. After reading the first few chapters, a light bulb clicked on and I started to realize the true value that Twitter could bring to my business.

The book explains that Twitter is an avenue for connecting with other professionals as a way to grow your business or, for larger companies, as a savvy customer service tool. Readers are given a chapter full of real-world examples of companies, from large corporations to one-person service providers, that are benefiting from Twitter. Personally, I love seeing real examples of people like me who’ve seen actual results, such as an increased prospect base and better exposure for their business. (As a side note, I’ll stick my own success story in here: literally within days of joining Twitter, I reconnected with a contact of mine who said she’d been meaning to get in touch with me for months to do some writing for her, and after a few 140-word posts back and forth, we’re now in the process of getting an agreement signed. In the past week, I’ve also connected with dozens of interesting professionals – and possible clients - worldwide that I would have never met if it weren’t for Twitter.)

The author also provides warnings on how not to use Twitter. While most Twitterers blend their personal and professional lives to some extent, there is a line that really shouldn’t be crossed, which you’ll read about in more detail on the pages of this book.

Twitter is a highly user-friendly application, but there are plenty of tools out there to make the navigation even easier. The author devotes a chapter to those resources that will help you get the most out of Twitter, including a few Twitter basics to help you get started.

Twitter Means Business is written in a conversational tone; by the end, you really start to get to know, and like, the down-to-earth author. This book is best for those that aren’t sure how to use Twitter in their business and want an easy-to-follow guide to get them started.

This paperback book consists of 152 pages and can be found on Amazon.com for $17.95.

Thanks for the insight. I agree that business and personal should be blended very carefully. I wouldn't want a personal facebook/Twitter etc for instance to be for my business for example.

I am new and haven't even published my website yet. I have been thinking and researching blogging and Twitter. It sounds like this book is a must. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Thanks for this good review, Tammi. I think Twitter is the most complex phenomenon online today. I do notice that while there are many users, an awful lot don't post very often. Though that doesn't mean they don't lurk. I've experienced the swift response of a corporation contacting me after I made a semi-disparaging remark about them ... Twitter's obviously great for customer service.

Tammi,
Thanks for the a great review of a book about Twitter and how it can be used to help increase your online visibility and for marketing yourself. I recommend to anyone new to Twitter that you read up on how to use it properly and to lurk about for a while to get a feel for it. Twitter is a great tool for Virtual Assistants to reach their target markets.

Funny, I was just rooting around Twitter earlier today. I think I will get a copy of this book so that I can stop being "blind" to whats its capable of.

Tammi.

Thank you for your review. I am on Twitter -- while I have made some connections, I still have yet to get the hang of it! This book might provide the insight that I need to reap the benefits from Twitter.

I'm so glad you all enjoyed the review! Twitter really is an amazing resource that I firmly believed should be utilized by all business owners. It seems that every day, I'm either making new contacts or finding a cool new resource. And it's absolutely free! So if you're not on Twitter, I'd encourage you to sign up!

Thanks from me, too, on the valuable resource. I've been trying to piece together my self-education on Twitter, and you just make it easy!
