When I grow up!

Posted 05-15-2009 at 02:15 AM by Virtually Assisting You
Enjoying the beautiful day that was so graciously given to us.We we're spending our afternoon outdoors today. I was swinging my oldest son, and out of the blue he said to me "Mom, what do you want to be when you grow up?" It really took me by surprise. My answer to him was "I want to be your Mom." With a huge smile and big bright eyes he said "Really?". Totally shocked at where this conversation was headed, he said to me "Are you sure you don't want to do something else when you grow up?". Of course I replied with "No Way". Thinking that was the end of the conversation he then ask "Did you always want to be my Mom?" Looking to see if I could read into what he was thinking I said "Oh Yes, ever since I was a little girl". I told him a story about how I used to day dream about the life I would have when I grew up. By this time my youngest son is listening, both of my boys love stories. So, my youngest then said "Where do you want to live when you grow up?" I told him "In Mountain Grove, Mo with Tucker and Heston Roth". They both just giggled. And, I thought for a moment I can so remember the childhood days of day dreaming about where I wanted to live and what I wanted to be "when I grow up". All of this got me to thinking, I've become exactly what I want to be when I grow up. I am healthy, have a beautiful family that loves me. I am so blessed to have found the VA industry to allow me to be with my family. One thing I've figured out...Being successful doesn't necessarily mean you make more money than someone else. Being successful means your happy - Happy with the career you've chose. Happy with the completed projects you hand over to your clients. Happy with your life. And most of all Happy with what you've decided to be when you grow up.

Isn't it amazing how children can really make you think about things from a different perspective?

So true Kena I was just thinking this morning about how it isn't necessarily having *more* [money, stuff, etc.] that makes the difference between success or failure but if I'm tuly happy with my life and the way I spend my time. I am - so I guess I'm a raging success!

I really enjoyed reading this short, sweet story - thanks for sharing it with us!

I always just wanted to be happy. To this day, that is my mark of success..I may not always be able to pay all my bills on time, but as long as I'm happy, I've always been able to deal with whatever life throws at me. I thank God for my daughter, she always has a way of putting everything into perspective.

Great story!
