When you think of website design I'm sure that like most of us you worked hard on your content and getting your logo designed but did you realize that the colors used on your website can have a psychological impact on your visitors? What does this mean you ask? Well since colors mean different things to different people you need to know who your targeted audience is as well as knowing what message you are trying to convey. Check out the brief color list below and see how some colors may make your visitors feel emotionally:
As you can see there are many emotions associated with colors so you really want to pick the right one ie. red is a color that is used for food, that if used correctly is known to make you eat more, however if you used blue on your food site - well the results would be disastrous as blue is known to be an appetite suppressant
. You also want to choose carefully your background color as a darker color can dominate your web page making your content and pictures get lost in the mix. Nothing will make a visitor click off a site faster than not being able to read what you are saying!
So there you have it...Website Color 101. Designing a website is an exciting prospect and if done correctly will make you stand out to your prospective audience!
Until next time...

Interesting analysis on the meanings of and feelings evoked by color.
I love color and movement on a site but it is so important, and sometimes difficult, to find that balance between truly unique and barely tolerable ![]() |

I agree, color is very important as a visual cue for websites. I deliberately chose red as one of my "power" colors and because red evokes the feelings of passion, which are part of my website theme and content. Great post and good advice when considering your colors.
