Free Reading Resources Available

Aha! I am sure that I got your attention with that (as was intended). I recently was perusing one of the threads on VAF and found that one of our VA's had highly recommended a book title that interestingly enough I had just considered purchasing at our local bookstore. Now I didn't buy the book however as I was feeling my tightwad spirit come out post-holiday season and so I made a mental note to look into it for a later date.

As I continued on reading the thread about this recommended book there was a comment from another VA which is where I found this amazing free reading resource - the local library! I have to admit that I am an avid reader but I sometimes forget that I have this amazing resource right at my fingertips. So my advice to you is that before you decide to part ways with your hard earned cash, check out your local library's business reading resources first. You would be amazed at what titles they have for loan out and you may be able to request a specific book that you were hoping to read to increase your business knowledge for 2009.

Until next time...

My most favorite place to be is the library. Sometimes life gets so hectic and there really isn't any like spending a few hours at the library. It really is a place of solitude for me and I find it to be extremely calming. You are so right that the local library is a great free resource right at our very fingertips.

An added bonus, if it is close enough walking there will do some good too. I can't tell you how many times as a young girl a friend and I would walk home with an armful of books from the library.

Happy Reading!

I love the library too! My mom got me my first library card when I was in grade three...after that I was on a first name basis with the librarians in a city of 60,000 . There is nothing like the feel of anticipation you get when you know you have a backpack load of books to bring home.

Nothing like the good ole book and the local library to get it at. I love to go to the library when I need a change to get the creative juices flowing because I know there is no distraction noises.

Three cheers for the local library! When I was in university I'd get the reading list and see what I could borrow - it saved me hundreds overall. Your local library is such a great resource for more than just books too!

I have a standing 'date' with my teenage son to visit the library every Saturday. I find that he does his weekend homework much better in the library environment without distractions and I am nearby to help him and coax him on. He has access to way-more materials in the library for book reports than I have at home and the dictionary (the REAL DICTIONARY, not dictionary.com) is just a few feet away. It's so nice to use a book instead of a keyboard! He also receives special attention from the librarians as they know him by name and allow him extra time on the computer and go out of their way to order special books from the main library that are not housed in our branch. He's asked to do his community service at the library, which is required for high school graduation.

I've been a regular attendee all my life and often took my son to the library for storytelling and other library activities since he was a few months old.

While I am at the library, as I was today, I am able to find articles I can use for upcoming blog topics for my business and for my clients. I read real estate magazines I otherwise wouldn't have access to. I brush-up on new trends as I service some real estate clients and I collect names and contact information when I do my marketing.

I always check out something...today I left with a cookbook on using a pressure cooker as one of my clients is a dietitian and is promoting healthy, economical cooking. I also borrow CDs that I download to my mp3 player to listen to while I am walking or working at my desk.

There's always something special about the library that I can adapt for my personal enjoyment or for work-related research. When I sink into one of those comfy library chairs, I can feel the stress leave my body. It's actually quite therapeutic. I'm so pleased to have passed this love of the library to my son in a time when going to the library with your mom isn't really 'that cool'.

Way to go Jan! My little guy starts 'Tiny Tots Library Hour' this week. I am actually looking forward to it. I think we have already passed along the love of books to our son as that is one of the only things that will keep him still longer than 5 seconds - that and Thomas the Train!
