:Before joining the forum, I purchased a lot of manuals and do it yourself book to find out info about this field of Virtual Assistant. This field incorporated a lot more application and computer awareness. It also was more flexible than just being a traditional Secretary. I went to classes for certain applications I never used, and I mastered them.
I graduated from college with an AA Degree, (1982) minored in Law and Legal Secretarial Science. When I started typing I used a manual typewriter--Royal (lets just say I was a teenage in high school in the 70's), then the IBM electric typewriter was next, then a Smith Coroner Word Processor, then finally my first computer in 1998 a Phionex computer.
My first software suite was from Corel. I used their spreadsheet, photoshop and countless another application which came with my first computer. I no longer use my Corel suite because I have upgraded to XP, but they help establishing my VA business. Oh by the way, I still use WordPerfect, I found that Lawyers like that the best, I don't know why.
I am always attending training sessions and I no longer purchase training or do it yourself books. I log on to my computer and I read and apply my knowledge to whatever I am doing. Now, that is where this Forum comes into play. Sometime I am stump and I need help, my next best thing to do is ask a question in this forum. Everytime I have asked a question, the response is right on point.
I have added services to my Business Resume; some of the services I never dreamed I would have. My business is starting to move into the next level; I still love subcontracting because I love to help out. Did I forget to mention that I am a retired Law Enforcement Officer, after 20 years of patroling the street of NYC, I finally became the own of a company named, UNIQUELY40, LLC and I am license in the states of New York and Nevada.
I've come a long way baby to get to where I am today, and I am loving it. Thank you again Virtual Assistant Forum members and Happy Birthday.
