You Will Stumble, You Will Fall, but… Will You Pick Yourself Back Up and Move Forward?

In the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Nick Portokalos says to Toula Portokalos - “Don’t let your past dictate who you are, but let it be part of who you become.” – Dear Abby
There is a great deal of wisdom in this saying. We all have had our ups and downs and have made our mistakes in the past. We shouldn’t let those ups and downs and mistakes dictate who we must be, but rather embrace them and allow them to assist us in making better choices and integrate that into who we allow ourselves to become. Instead of saying to ourselves, “I did this or that” or “this or that happened to me so how I can I possibly do this?” Let’s say to ourselves, “What can I bring from that situation into my life as it is now and learn from it?” or “What can I do to make my life better in spite of it?”
As a child you may have fallen off your bike when jumping a ramp. You crash, crack your skull on the pavement and split it open. Do you allow fear to stop you from riding and jumping again or do you get up, brush yourself off, and say how can I do that without hurting my head? The answer to yourself really should be, “I’ll put a helmet and other protective gear on.” I know that some of you are thinking I am crazy. Why would I get back on that bike and jump that ramp again when I could get seriously hurt? The idea here is you cannot live your life in fear. Put on all the protective gear you can and jump again. This time if you fall you will be protected.
This same principle can apply to all parts of your life. As a Christian woman I put on what is called in the Bible the Full Armor of God; the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the sandals of peace, shield of faith, helmet of salvation, and Sword of the Spirit which is God’s word.
· The truth is God: the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.
· Righteousness is the holy and perfect righteousness of those who are born again through the blood of Jesus Christ
· Peace is that inner peace that you have when you have a sound relationship with Christ
· Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen.
· Salvation is through and by the blood of Jesus Christ.
· Sword of the Spirit is God’s word.
As Christian Mompreneurs we need to guard our lives with the Full Armor of God to aide us in our journey through this life. We claim the title of Christian Mompreneurs which is a really great title to hold, but even as Christians we make mistakes and stumble and fall along our way. We are not perfect, but we should strive to be Christ like and if we are truly wearing the Full Armor of God we will be protected. Not saying that trials won’t come our way they surely will, but how do we handle those trials, how do we respond to them? How do we respond to our own mistakes? We all fall and stumble. It’s how we pick ourselves up and respond to the falls that creates who we become.
Tell us how you handle trials and mistakes in your life. Do you have suggestions to help others on their journey that they may be struggling with what to do next after they have fallen or are going through some trials in their life? If so please share them with us.

Rhonda, I just wanted to add a quick comment that this 'pick yourself back up' attitude is exactly what separates the successes from the failures (in ANY endeavor, but for the purpose of our conversation, I'll stick to VAs
) - whatever it is that keeps people motivated, trying, striving, hoping, etc. You can see it here on the forums, there are just some people who do not give up. They work toward their goal and don't let obstacles stop them (dare I say, YOU are one of those people!? )I can appreciate that for you, faith is a huge part of that strength; keeping you going, giving you what you need to keep picking yourself back up when you fall... Thanks for sharing! ![]() |
