Networking: Face to Face

Posted 10-28-2012 at 02:39 PM by RhondaHolscher
I have been reading the threads on networking and the different opinions and experiences. Tons of you have questions if it's even worth it. Some feel they get nothing from it, and some swear by it. Instead of responding to the threads I've decided to write this blog post with my take on it.

RELATIONSHIPS TAKE TIME

I love face to face networking! You get out and meet all these really great people. I work at home, I'm a single mom, I don't date, and so without business meetings and networking events my social life is null and void at the moment. These events are awesome! I think the personal connection is the BEST way to gain clients as well as great friendships. Relationships take time to nurture no matter online...

You Will Stumble, You Will Fall, but… Will You Pick Yourself Back Up and Move Forward?

Posted 09-02-2011 at 12:13 AM by RhondaHolscher
In the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Nick Portokalos says to Toula Portokalos - “Don’t let your past dictate who you are, but let it be part of who you become.” – Dear Abby

There is a great deal of wisdom in this saying. We all have had our ups and downs and have made our mistakes in the past. We shouldn’t let those ups and downs and mistakes dictate who we must be, but rather embrace them and allow them to assist us in making better choices and integrate that into who we allow ourselves to become. Instead of saying to ourselves, “I did this or that” or “this or that happened to me so how I can I possibly do this?” Let’s say to ourselves, “What can I bring from that situation into my life as it is now and learn from it?” or...

Make It Happen

Posted 04-18-2011 at 03:53 AM by RhondaHolscher
It’s a good feeling to be able to call the shots once in a while. There are so many things in this life that we cannot control, even if we really wanted to. For many years I felt so helpless as if I had no control over my own life. Of course, it’s not like I have control over everything now, I mean who does? Isn’t control just an illusion that we tell ourselves to make us feel better- or is it?

I’m not saying that we cannot do things to shape our future; as a matter of fact I’m really saying quite the opposite. We really do have some control over things and the things that we do today will decide what happens tomorrow. The fact is we are given choices each and every day of our lives to make and if we make them well, then we...

Just exactly how does a WAHM do it all? She doesn’t unless she’s Super Mom!!!

Posted 04-18-2011 at 03:49 AM by RhondaHolscher
Are you Super Mom? I know I’m not. In fact at times I can be downright cranky and irritated. The fact that my laundry is piling up, or the kids left that blasted toy out in the middle of the hallway again and I of course tripped over it in the middle of the night when all the lights where off. Or I have had a long day working on a BIG project and possibly up most of the night the night before because that BIG project had a LOOMING deadline and now it’s time to fix dinner and start the evening routine with the kids and wouldn’t you know it I’m out of milk and… well geeze Louise who’s going to go to the store and pick up milk when dinner is still on the stove and guess what I’m a single mom. Okay, well I do have a teen driver in the house now...

New Beginnings

Posted 12-11-2010 at 11:47 PM by RhondaHolscher
Christmas is almost here and the new year is quickly approaching. I'm pondering... what the new year has in store.

I had a wonderful childhood aside from a few bumps in the road of life I've managed to get through adulthood fairly well. I've had my fair share of aches and pains as well as joys, and now I'm working on a new beginning. I started on this new beginning not so long ago after the loss of my parents.

The father of my children left me about 6 or so years ago, and I had just had our second baby. Our beautiful baby girl was only two months old when he decided he needed more out of life. At that time I was also caring for both my parents and had a c-section and was trying to recover from that. I felt...

We often discuss how important it is to use our social media to benefit our business. When discussing social media we are usually referring to how important it is to gain and retain clients.

I want to talk about another kind of social networking today. It is just as important if not more so to network with other’s in your industry. Through this type of networking you are ensuring more stability for your business.

Networking with other’s in your industry helps you to stay on top of current trends. It helps you to stay informed of anything that is necessary for you to know about your business.

If a question arises that you need an immediate answer to you will have a community that you can...

Is this a man's world?

Posted 07-02-2010 at 12:38 AM by RhondaHolscher
Some would say yes, some would say no we have come to far for that. I say it is what we make it.
If you have any doubts that we live in a society controlled by men, try reading down the index of contributors to a volume of quotations, looking for women's names. - Elaine Gill http://womenshistory.about.com/library/qu/blqulist.htm
I personally grew up in a world controlled by men. Being raised in a Baptist home with a father who was a Deacon in the church I was raised on very conservative and traditional values. Men were and still are very much the controlling factor in this environment.

In school however we were being taught about women's rights and and women’s liberation. This led to a somewhat confusing message...

Social Media Marketing - Wow! How it has impacted my business.

Posted 06-14-2010 at 03:32 PM by RhondaHolscher
Social Media Marketing has changed the way I do business by allowing me to reach potential clients that I would not have otherwise been able to reach.

Now I have only been in business for a few months with my new business, but when I first had my first secretarial service I did not know about social media marketing, and I literally went out and hit the pavement running door to door, introducing myself, and handing out flyers and business cards. Needless to say all but one of my clients was local.

Now with the social media marketing it enables me to market my business in many different media forums, i.e. Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, VirtualAssistantForums, VirtualAssistantville, WordPress,...

Are you a dreamer or a doer?

Posted 05-28-2010 at 12:15 AM by RhondaHolscher
I often dream. Our dreams is where it all starts. Without dreams we would have no direction for our lives. Our dreams allow us to know what we want to do in life. Today I want to talk about dreams of success.

Every one of us have the potential to become successful and if we are willing to work hard we can make our dreams a reality. Don’t just settle for the dream without making every effort to make it happen.

I often dream of my future and what it will be like. Those dreams include my children growing and learning, graduating high school, going to college, getting married, and giving me grandchildren.

My dreams also include which direction I want my life to...

Effective Leadership

Posted 05-18-2010 at 03:50 PM by RhondaHolscher
The key to successful leadership today is influence, not authority. ~Kenneth Blanchard

Effective leadership begins with you, the leader, manager, president, CEO, etc. Whichever role you play as a leader the ability to be a successful leader is crucial.

How can you be an effective leader? As an effective leader you must be capable of producing an environment conducive to creating effective employees, independent contractors, etc.

The ‘team’ (I like to refer to your people as a team because this refers to a joint effort and no one is acting or working alone) needs to be assured that ‘you’ the ‘leader’ will be available and open to communication. The team needs to be able...

Be Positive

Posted 05-18-2010 at 03:45 PM by RhondaHolscher
With the many trials I have been through in this life, I have to say that having a positive attitude goes a long way at being successful and productive. Have I always been positive? Of course not, life has a way of bringing a person down from time to time, but I have learned through my trials that being positive is the best way to push forward and to succeed in life.

In the Bible it says that He will put no more on you than you can bare. I believe this with all my heart because no matter how trying a situation became I have survived it and came out learning something from it.

Are you a positive person? If you are not you can be! When you feel yourself stuck in the rut of negativity do...

Empower Yourself

Posted 04-24-2010 at 12:38 AM by RhondaHolscher
Often we are told that we cannot do this or that, and we believe it. Why? Why do we let ourselves buy into other peoples ideas of what we can and cannot do? If there is something you have a desire to do or have been inspired to do then do it. Do not let others dictate your successes and failures. They may be telling you that you cannot do it because they are trying to save you the hurt of failure, but I say the old adage is true, “The only true failure is the one who fails to try.” How do you know you cannot do what you want unless you try. If you do not succeed at it then pick yourself up by the bootstraps and try again. Do not let others dictate what you do or do not do.

Take me for example I am a single parent who for...

How has being a member of VAF made an impact on you and your business? # 2

Posted 04-01-2010 at 11:20 AM by RhondaHolscher
Being a member of VAF has been a tremendous help for my business. It has impacted me in ways I never thought possible.

The dynamics of the groups at VAF are wonderful. The professionals of VAF have made being a member there a very pleasant experience. I have learned so much from them and their wonderful suggestions. The knowledge from some of the seasoned members is astronomical, and proves to be very useful in my business.

The resources on VAF are also terrific. The free forms have proven to be very useful, the RFP’s are a great resource to look to when seeking new clients, and reading the other posts/blogs on VAF are always very informative.

I love VAF because of the vast
