Nike got it right - Who's your cheerleader?

Posted 07-19-2009 at 06:14 AM by NZVAs
I think one of the main reasons I have so many wonderful networks is because I am a natural cheerleader. There's no way I would steer my friends into doing something stupid, wreckless or careless with their business, careers or family lives but if they are thinking about doing something good - I'm right there to cheer them on. And they know it.

Uncertainty is as constant as change. Hand in hand they often go. One causing the other and the other causing it. Having someone listen and support you is important. Someone who's been there and done that - and come out of whatever it was successfully - is even better. That's not to say that someone who hasn't made good choices isn't a great cheerleader either.

I've learned to value my cheerleaders because they want the best for me. They're excited when I tell them about new initiatives. They're helpful when I tell them the challenges I currently face. They're genuinely happy for me when I achieve my milestones. If someone springs to mind as you're reading this - it's likely that's your cheerleader.

If no-one springs to mind straight away, think about those situations in business, in sport, in parenting etc. You may have multiple cheerleaders....

Divine Inspiration (I know how original!)

Posted 06-23-2009 at 06:32 AM by NZVAs
I use the word divine but I mean it. Attached is a picture of my two girls, one a Maori mermaid at the local santa parade and the other wearing our Santa stockings on her feet(!) and a Christmas hat.

These two young ladies inspire me more than anything else in the world. I would turn the world around for them if I could. I feel no less unique for it - rather I feel blessed to be part of world full of parents, each wanting the best for their child and sharing that worldly understanding with all other parents internationally.

A parents love knows no discrimination. Before I had children I thought about what I would do until I die, now I think past that, like what can I do for them even when I am gone? Their effervescent personalities, groundhog day positivity - literally every morning without fail - and their anxiousness to succeed drives me to show them that dreams aren't something they only have when they go to sleep, that security isn't something someone gives you but that you can have within yourself and that true love isn't something they have to work for or spend years seeking ... they just have to look around them and see what's already there.

Spring Cleaning your Attitude!

Posted 05-07-2009 at 05:55 AM by NZVAs

Here in New Zealand, Spring season doesn't arrive until September. BUT celebrating another country's season is just as good a reason as any to make a spring "to do" list and wipe out some of those little things.

Like dust, the little things we've neglected to do or run out of time to do, build up. Sitting quietly on the surface, waiting silently for our attention. Do we dust? No, because there's more important things to do of course.

If we don't make that concerted effort to complete them, we eventually start getting allergy symptoms... headaches.

They might have been small specs of dust initially, just a 'to do' that wasn't urgent or important. But as time goes on they did become important and then as the final deadline drew near for these little things, they also became urgent. Funnyhow that happens.

I defiantly refused to make any New Years Resolutions because I didn't see the point in making the first day of a year a particularly special day for life changing decisions. My attitude was "why does it have to be January 1st?"
