My Job Is In My Way!

Posted 06-09-2009 at 11:24 AM by NikAssist
Why can't I just be at home, on my computer, reading the VAF and then applying all the knowledge I am gaining to my business? Why do I have to come into this office each day and waste my valuable networking and marketing time? I think this is completely unfair! I can only read the VAF, but checking out all the links and everything just takes too much time, and I'm supposed to be doing quotes and tracking orders for my day job...I want to be working on my SEO strategies and finding forums to join and engage in!! I want to have my music on my computer what I want to listen to...not this boring elevator music they have playing in the background. I want to be able to take a breather and take my dog for a short walk and then happily come back to work on my computer in my home!!

I want to be able to be there when my daughter gets off the school bus like all the other moms I see at the bus stop that I PASS ON MY WAY TO THIS OFFICE!!

Is a vent still considered a blog..LOL...just daydreaming a bit about what is going to come my way...soon...this blog itself will be both history and a reality!

I totally feel ya. I'm so ready to just be a VA. As soon as I get enough work to quit my day job I am. Hang in there girl.

Oh, do I know where you are coming from! My job isn't bad, but it isn't what I want to be doing! So I've made a plan, and each day I write down all the little "baby" steps I'm taking to reach my goal. Some days it seems as if I'm not getting any closer, but in reading over the past week or month, I find I am actually making progress toward my goal.

Also, is there any chance you could listen to your iPod while you work? At least you could listen to the music you want to hear.

It is your blog - write - or vent about whatever you want to!

Someone once told me that if your hands are half full with something you don't want then how can you hope to fill your hands completely with something you do want. Have you talked to your employer about the business you are planning to start and advised them that they could contract the work to you that way? There's also the alternative of suggesting a streamlining project where you analyze the processes within your current role and cut it down to a four day (or less) role to start freeing up your time. Easier said than done for some I know, but when you're ready, there's plenty of support here at VAF to help you do it. Are you a member of the Small-Time VAs group? There are a bunch of part timers there who have one foot in and out of the door... lots of expertise in one place that you could ask about how they got into the part time scene etc.

Chin Up - Without a goal you're not going to get anywhere so you can already pat yourself on the back for acknowledging you've done the first bit right and have that vision/goal already! It won't be long. And you have passion - that's fab as too - we all needed that to move to the next step I'm sure.
