Hello there this is my first attempt at blogging on this forum. I hope you realise I am new at the blogging challenge but that is good because I can start the challenge to myself and any views here amongst friendly commentators...
I have been having a few issues with my computer this year so missed out on January and February simply because out of 40 days my computer was not working for 25 of those days. In between facing up to those issues and spending more time than I would like to admit on fixing it I have learnt a little about twitter and how to share information to my Linkedin account and also link in my wordpress blog. Also I recently attended the AVAC conference in Melbourne and not only met awesome VAs but learnt a great deal.
Thanks to those who organised and participated in this event. Whilst I have a website under construction I am sure that driving traffic to my blog will be more effective once that is completed.

There has been quite a lot of discussion lately on various forums about the three 'E's. They seem to be exploitation, ethics and engagement. I was recently listening to Episode 68 the recent podcast by the lovely Darlene and I realised that these types of discussions will continue and so they should. The first discussion about exploitation began on LinkedIn and started a really interesting reaction with 14 comments.
This was prompted by a blog I saw somewhere in cyberspace about pay rates. Sadly at times there appears to be a general desire for some quarters to exploit workers whether it is in the VA industry, hospitality or even industry. Whilst we work globally from home in the VA industry I believe Jeanne Clontz and Darlene and many others in the arena are so right when they refer to ethics. Even VAF have their code of conduct stated under the heading Community Terms of Service It really is not fair or right or even honest to use someone to earn or profit from their time and energy. On this point I totally understand volunteering as long as all parties recognise it is volunteering. Whilst we need to engage our clients, friends and colleagues with social media we also need to encourage the use of code of conducts and following good old fashioned ethics. If you want to hear or learn more about this I can recommend listening to Episode 68 of A Virtual Perception and noticing the extensive reading list supplied. Each time I have checked out VAF site I am constantly amazed at the depth of information for example regarding guests and seo how better to learn about differentiating markets and the importance of strategy than be a part of a chat with The Zen of Social Media Marketing? How does exploitation, ethics and engagement feel about yourself or the VA industry? I would love to learn your thoughts on this topic.
