A Day in the Life of a Virtual Assistant

This is my very first blog and since I am fairly new to the virtual assistant world, I will base this writing from that perspective.
My day begins at 6:30 a.m. After hitting the snooze once or twice, I pull myself out of bed, grab a cup of coffee and sit down with the cat for his morning massage. By 7:10 a.m., I am out the door with 15 year old granddaughter to take her to high school. I refer to this experience as entering the war zone and am equipped with the necessary armor. In the war zone, I encounter moms and dads on their way to their J.O.B. They will do whatever is needed to get those kids out of the vehicle in order to rush off to their destinations. Things like park in the middle of the drive, holding up traffic, while their passengers get out of the vehicle, go to the trunk and pull out the necessary items needed for their day. Some use the forward attack method and pull out into the lane of oncoming traffic in order to achieve their mission. This of course blocks others from attacking, which I suppose is a good strategy.
By 7:20 a.m. I am back home ready for the next attack: taking my 13 year old grandson to middle school. Once I maneuver through the battle lines of the middle school parents, I make it back home with few battle scars and have a break before I have to encounter the front lines again at the elementary school with my 10 year old grandson.
In that time, I log in and start checking my emails. I only have 30 minutes until the time I have to get my 10 year old up and ready for his day. This is sometimes a challenge due to the fact that he has ADHD and I never know what the morning will bring. By 8:30 a.m., I am out the door again and off to the elementary school battleground.
Back by 8:45 a.m., licking my wounds, I am ready for my day as a virtual assistant. I continue checking emails and respond to requests for subcontracting work.
After reviewing my marketing strategies, I search for potential clients through eLance, Guru, and oDesk. I then check in with my social networking sites, and although I have yet to discover the benefits of twittering, I know that social networking is important to growing my VA business.
I check in at the forums to read the latest posts, and before I know it is it 2:00 p.m. I grab a quick lunch, and then off to the battlegrounds I go. As I watch parents, again in a rush to pick up their kids so they can dash back to their J.O.B. before their co-workers notice how long that afternoon break really was, I count my blessings that I am a virtual assistant.

By this brings back memories of when my son was still in school, hauling him back and forth. It is quite the experience. Great job with the imagery. You had me in the seat next to you.

So very true...parents who decide it's OK to stop in the drop off line and have a chat with another parent are my favorites, while we are all trying to get through the line with our own children! It IS a war zone...thanks for sharing. The nice thing about being a VA is having some flexibility (if there isn't a client waiting for you) to be a few minutes behind from logging on in the am. No real timeclock to punch or warning notice for being late from getting back from the war zone!

Great first blog post! I enjoyed reading it. My cat has to have his morning massage too; but my husband is his masseuse.
