Yes, I would meet my mother-in-law...(Post #1)

There are many people I would love to meet, both past and present, to pick their brain and have a conversation with. But the one person that I truly would love to meet and will never have the chance, is my husband's mother.
One reason, and the biggest, she has been deceased since before I met my husband. It saddens me that she would never meet our two children. I know this was a dream of hers, for him to have a strong family life, and I am sure that he thinks about that often.
The other is I would love to hear her story. She was certainly a strong woman, lived life for herself and not what the rules dictated. She broke those rules, divorced and remarried when it was not a common thing to do. She had three more children and blended her family to be such a strong unit. She worked outside the home when it was not your typical place for a woman. She picked up the pieces after her second husband suddenly passed and saw to it that her children were educated and led fulfilled lives. And she made sure her children did not want for one thing.
Being a business women with my focus on my family, I am certain that there are many life lessons she could have shared with me. As I sometimes struggle with all the demands, I am sure there is much advise she could give on "doing it all". But most of all, I am enamored because of the legacy that she has left. Integrity, ethical and always had your back are words you often hear when she is being described. I would have loved to see what else she could have accomplished as the world changed around her, knowing she would be easily changing with it.
There are many people I would love to meet, and Mrs. D is tops on my list.

Lee,
Mrs. D sounds like a wonderful person! You described her as, "Integrity, ethical and always had your back are words you often hear when she is being described." You can't get any better than those wonderful characteristics. It is very thoughtful that you chose your blog entry about someone so special. Thank you for sharing her legacy here. Janine |

Lee,
Your post absolutely touched me. This challenge has been tough for me, as I wasn't able to come up with what I thought we be a "good enough" answer to the question. Reading the title of yours, a light bulb went off and I instantly knew that I should have done the same. As I continued reading, there were so many similarities that I almost felt as if you were writing for me. Great job. And although I won't be participating in the contest this month, thank you for reminding me that there was a wonderful woman that continually impacts my life that I will never have the chance to meet (at least here on earth anyway). |

Lee, I love to hear stories about "enchanting" women. I know you are one too. What a great story, thanks for writing it.

I have been blessed with a sweetheart for a mother-in-law. She too has been a source of wonder for me as she has dealt with the early death of her husband, has fought breast cancer, bladder cancer, the death of all her siblings and now 2 daughters fighting breast cancer. Through all of these battles she has shown strength, determination and grace.
Your mother-in-law sounds like an awesome role model for you and your children. Thanks for sharing! |

What a neat post - very heartfelt.
I realize it might sound cliche, but even though she's not physically present, I'll bet she's very much aware of what an amazing wife to her son and mother to her grandchildren [and business woman!] you are ![]() |
