A Weekend in the Life of a VA

Your wish is my command...

Friday
5:00PM - Clear desk and file work for Monday. Read, review, and file e-mail inbox to zero. Quick scan of e-mail pending items to ensure nothing urgent was missed. Computer OFF (If you’re lucky I might check my e-mail via my blackberry but chances are I won’t reply. Computer gets turned back when I get to the office Monday morning.)

Here’s what I’m busy doing:

Sneak Out Saturday – taking my nephew to The Donut House in our jammies for donuts and coffee/hot cocoa.

Auntie Day – taking my niece to “the coffee store” for hot cocoa then shopping at Michaels for craft stuff.

Winter Carnival – Going to a local ski resort to watch the torch parade and fireworks followed by pizza at the pizza parlor.

Hiking – either along the lake or in the mountains.

God’s Beautiful Creation Exploration – taking my niece (this year I’ll take my nephew) on a hike to view God’s Beautiful Creation (she complains, I carry the backpack of snacks and the treasure jar – go figure).

Boating – meeting some friends on the lake (obviously NOT in the winter) where we tether the boats and float, swim or otherwise have a load of fun.

Camping – if we can pull a whole weekend away I’m out at the river hiking through the secret paths or skipping rocks on across the river and, of course, s’mores at night.

Eagle watching – unfortunately this is limited to only a few weeks out of the year, but I’m there watching the Bald Eagles soar.

Downtown – if there’s something going on downtown chances are, I’m there.

Sunday morning I’m at church usually followed by lunch at the Mexican restaurant.

Sounds divine! I have stuck to the mantra 'weekends are sacred' for the last three years - after working TOO many of them my first year in business. Good for you for filling yours with wonderful people and experiences

I love that you definitely get the most out of your weekends! I try to turn my computer off on the weekends also, but sometimes that proves very difficult for me. Keeping the weekends free is a great way to keep from getting burned out as a business owner.

Wow! You are a busy person on the weekend. Makes me feel guilty sitting in a chair on the beach reading a book. But I do turn my computer on and do what needs to be done before we head to the beach. And we usually ride our bikes to the beach, so we aren't total slugs.
