I hope everyone enjoys this. I have too much of an imagination not to try this exercise. Please keep in mind that portions of this are fiction.

A Day in the Life of a VA!

The coffee’s on, the kids have just gotten on the school bus and the house is quiet. In your slippers you walk into your cozy home office and turn on the computer. It’s time for the day to begin. As the computer warms up, a load of laundry is placed in the washer, the dishes are put away and the coffee is poured.
Feeling more relaxed that something around the house has been accomplished you open your email box. It’s going to be a good day, only 74 messages waiting to be triaged. You sort through the messages, making notes to yourself of the pad of paper that never leaves your desk. You look at your calendar to see what projects take priority and begin to focus on task #1.
Project after project, task after task your work load shortens. By 10am, it’s time for a break. The coffee cup goes with you to the kitchen to be washed out. The laundry gets switched to the dryer and the next load begins. You finally take your morning shower. No sense doing that before your coffee. Feeling refreshed you head back to your office to finish off your to do list and check your email once again.
As you stare at your inbox in shock you realize that today is not going to be the good day you planned. Your best client is cutting their hours, your new client has a project that she can barely describe but wants it completed ASAP, and your outgoing server isn’t sending. A deep breath helps as you write down notes to yourself and tackle the most important problem first. No email, no work.
You search the net, you search the server FAQ, you search your security program settings and finally on an obscure wiki you find the answer that works and voila your email is sending once again. Now that life has a chance at finding equilibrium you call your clients and get squared away of what they want so you can complete the work they need.
By 2 o’clock your stomach is starting to dance the cha-cha without you. Taking a lunch break you remember that you had started laundry. You also realize that the kids will be home in an hour and have soccer practice. At this point, you’re wondering if your blackberry will be able to access the websites you need to get information off of for the new clients rush project.
The laundry switched, the carpets vacuumed, you finally return to your computer and cross your fingers there are no more fire drills…but alas, this is not your day. The school calls before the screen comes back to life, to tell you that Timmy has a bloody nose and is now suspended for fighting. Ahh the joys of parenthood! You give up on the computer for the time being to go pick up the boys.
By 9pm you’re tired, the kids are in bed, your hubby is in his favorite recliner watching your favorite show and you are back at the computer writing an article for tomorrow and finishing up the rush project for the new client. As 11pm rolls around you take the time to write out tomorrow’s to do list and shut down the computer for the night. It’s over for today! You get a whole new ball to play with tomorrow.

Kristi,
My what an eventful day. Hope Timmy is okay and that you did not forget the laundry in the dryer. Hoping tomorrow is a little less stressful.
