Courage

"There is one ingredient that separates the champions of our world from the masses...Courage. What Courageous action will you take today?"
I woke up one morning this week to find this message from a mentor and client on my FaceBook wall. In the back of my mind I thought about some lessons learned from this spiritual and powerful leader.
My courageous action that day was simply letting my voice be heard; speaking my truth.
"Public" speaking is very difficult for me. Putting myself on public display in front of the world via the internet is excruciating. Expressing myself through social media gives me the shakes. I do fine in intimate groups, with people I've developed a relationship. I am willing to share tips and techniques, but to open myself to the world, that leaves me shaken.
Yet I stood up, or rather sat down, and said what was laid in my heart to say.
And I had several moments of panic. More than once I wanted to delete the post. To fall back into the 'children must be seen and not heard' mindset of my youth. An amazing thing happened. Someone submitted a comment on my blog. Someone I've never heard of, a total stranger! Then someone else submitted a comment in another place, and I noticed someone repeated a link my post. I felt 10 feet tall.
So thank you Sid for reminding me that I am a champion, and Dan, Kimberly, Dawn and Rochelle for reminding me that when I am courageous, others benefit.
Now I ask you: "There is one ingredient that separates the champions of our world from the masses...Courage. What Courageous action will you take today?"

I applaud your increasing courage, Kathy. You shouldn't worry about your social media skills because your posts are very thoughtful and beautifully written.
Just yesterday I picked up Tribes, by Seth Godin, and in it he says, "Fear of criticism is a powerful deterrent because the criticism doesn't actually have to occur for the fear to set in." So your post on courage is very timely for me. He goes on to say that he considers getting a bit of criticism is like a "badge of honor" because it means he "confounded expectations" - didn't write what was expected - delivered something "worth remarking on." Anyway, I took a courageous action today (well for me) - I replied to one of the Twitter elite's tweets. I always felt, well, who am I to get in on their conversation. But threw caution to the wind and tweeted it out anyway. Getting braver and braver. Deb |

Such a simple string of words, but such a powerful message/question. Thanks for this - it's a great perspective to take into the new year.
I guess, today, my courageous action was more personal than business related so I'll keep it to myself but I will say that it was a great way to live the day and made an obvious difference in someone else's life ![]() Thanks for this post! |
