A Day in the Life of a VA

Posted 02-25-2009 at 01:05 PM by KathyCrofoot.com
7:00 am Wake up. Coffee is on, thanks to hubby's forward thinking.

7:15 am reading through emails that came overnight. I'm looking for requests for information for a major client. Watching for leads to be placed with agents. Seeing if there are any voice mails that need to be returned. Love that 2 minute commute after a stop for coffee.

7:30 am mentally run through open tasks.
- Scanning documents to return to client
- Leads to place
- Updates
- Meeting at 9 am CST
- House showing appointment at 11:30 CST
- Phone calls
- House showing appointment at 2 pm
- Gym
- And the list goes on

8:45 am- this is when things start to go crazy
Client wants mini-meeting before 9 am meeting
New procedures being kicked around
Can I make a 11 am meeting today?
(Thinking fast on my feet is what I do best)
9:00 am Meeting (1)
New lead source
New procedures
Questions for the presenter - how this affects our team and pitfalls we should watch for
(still monitoring email and placing leads as necessary. Multi-tasking is highly overrated!)
9:30 am Meeting (1.1)...

Its About Time - What is Yours Worth?

Posted 01-08-2009 at 06:24 PM by KathyCrofoot.com
Did you know there were only 168 hours in a week? Of course you did, everyone knows that right? When those hours, minutes or seconds are gone, you can't get them back.

"Let's stop and think on that for a minute, shall we?"

I had this conversation with a client recently. He was trying to plow through a pile of paperwork, sort and mark them to make my job easier before he sent it to me for a project. It was causing him some angst because his heart wasn't in it. He wanted to spend time with his boys. When he was spending time with the boys, he felt bad because I was waiting on the information to do a project for him.

Here's what I told him. "Your boys will only be little just this one time. Get a BIG Priority Mail Box. One of those flat rate kind of boxes. Stack everything in and I'll sort it all out. I like to think I'm intelligent, and can figure out what is what without notes on it. If I have trouble with something, I'll ask questions." And he did just that. A few days later, I received a box with all the requested information. What was the clincher? I asked just one question: "How much is it worth to you to spend time with those boys of yours?"

Courage

Posted 12-23-2008 at 10:10 PM by KathyCrofoot.com
"There is one ingredient that separates the champions of our world from the masses...Courage. What Courageous action will you take today?"

I woke up one morning this week to find this message from a mentor and client on my FaceBook wall. In the back of my mind I thought about some lessons learned from this spiritual and powerful leader.

My courageous action that day was simply letting my voice be heard; speaking my truth.

"Public" speaking is very difficult for me. Putting myself on public display in front of the world via the internet is excruciating. Expressing myself through social media gives me the shakes. I do fine in intimate groups, with people I've developed a relationship. I am willing to share tips and techniques, but to open myself to the world, that leaves me shaken.

Yet I stood up, or rather sat down, and said what was laid in my heart to say.

And I had several moments of panic. More than once I wanted to delete the post. To fall back into the 'children must be seen and not heard' mindset of my youth. An amazing thing happened. Someone submitted a comment on my blog. Someone I've never heard of, a total...

"Where Attention Goes, Energy Flows"

Posted 12-22-2008 at 01:18 PM by KathyCrofoot.com

This is a Universal Principle. When you focus your attention on anything, this is where your energy also focuses. Think about it, when you were learning to parallel park, did you think "must not hit the curb, must not hit the cone, must not be too far from the curb"? Did any one of those things happen? Or do you avoid parallel parking at all costs? How about when you are driving and spot a pothole? Do you think "must not hit the pothole"? And do you? If you're like me, if you think about it, chances are you at least drifted towards that hole.

Have you noticed when you focus on how difficult a project is, the more difficult it becomes? The more you dislike the project, the harder it becomes. We make it into this huge difficulty in our minds.

I subscribe to several keyword feeds on Twitter through TweetBeep.com. One of these keywords is 'bookkeeping'. I am amazed at the people who struggle with this task. They post about how much they dislike it, how hard it is, and how they will do anything to avoid it. Bookkeeping becomes this huge monster to be avoided in their mind.

I used to be this way about dishwashing (many years ago when my son was young). I hated...
