Driving Traffic to Your Website or Blog (Post #3)

Having a brand new website is a lot like having a new car. Everything about it is exciting, the colors, the style and what's under the hood. And you can't wait to get the car out on the road to see it's true potential. The big difference between having a new website and having a new car is the direction of traffic. With your new car, you are usually driving from one destination to the next. With your new website, you want to drive traffic to your site and very rarely (if ever) away.
With that in mind, here are some tips on how to drive traffic to your website or blog. In fact, I have used many of these methods for driving traffic to my website or to clients' websites.
1. Use video - create and post videos on video sites like Youtube. The videos should provide some piece of information that is beneficial to the user. In your video description include a link to your website. In fact, include your website address right on the video itself... this way, the viewer knows where to find you to get more information.
2. Write articles - write articles focusing on your area of expertise and submit it to article directories like Ezine Articles. Then in your Resource Box (this is a section on many article directories where you can post a short bio about the author), include a link to your website.
3. Network and build relationships - network with people both off and online, when you talk about your business, hand them your business card which has your website address on it.
Whatever you decide to do, the best advice I can give you is to then monitor your website traffic. You can setup a Google Analytics account, it's easy and it's free. Monitoring your website traffic and watching to see how people are finding your site will hep you determine which methods are working for you. If you find one particular method is not working... try something else.
Just like a driving a new car, it takes time to figure out what works and what doesn't. Remember, even if something works for a very very long time, there is always the possibility that method won't work any more.
So, in closing, use the above methods to drive traffic to your site, then make sure you do some maintenance to ensure the traffic is driving smoothly to your site and know when to trade in methods for something else, when you find the current model is no longer working.
Happy Driving!

Great post, Darlene! Oooh, and I love the car-driving metaphors...'trade-in' and 'current model'...as usual you so are so very clever, clever!
I always enjoy reading your posts as you integrate how effective video really is for promoting businesses. You 'drove home' that thought quite well, again! Thanks for participating in the challenge question. Janine PS...Oh, and one difference between driving traffic to your site and driving your car is that YOU fuel the website but YOU don't have to pump your own gas... Lucky, lucky! |

Let me start out by saying that I LOVED this post. So well written and (kudos to me) I'm doing all you are talking about! So that in itself is quite exciting. Also, it's just not fair you get your gas pumped for you! lol. I miss that around here.
