Inspiration Soup

This month's VAF Blog Challenge was a bit challenging for me simply because I am inspired by so many things! A photo, a movie, something someone says, these things can all resonate with me and inspire me to feel a certain way, think a certain thought or do something I wouldn't have otherwise thought of doing.
Once, as a teenager, I watched the movie Alive. The movie was a story about a plane that crashed in the Andes and told the story of the passengers on the flight. It was graphic, at times hard to watch and extremely powerful (at least for me). Moments after watching that movie, I closed myself in my bedroom with my teal painted walls covered with images of kittens and rock stars. I took out a pack of white index cards and a pen with purple ink. On the front of each index card, I wrote the name of a friend or family member. I flipped each card over one by one and proceeded to write my heartfelt gratitude and expression of love toward these important people in my life. I cried, I laughed, it was a time of deep seeded reflection. I must have only been, but 15 or 16 years old. How a movie such as a Alive can evoke such passion in me, I will never know. I can tell you this though, that was not the first time nor the last time I will be inspired in just that manner. In fact, inspiration is a main driving force in many of the things I do in my life.
Below is a collage I put together of just some of things that inspire me, as well as, some the results of said inspiration. Music, art and books inspire me to go places beyond my imagination.
The most important image though on the collage, is the image of my grandparents, now both deceased. They inspire me every single day to strive to be the best person I can be, to be a good sister, daughter, niece and friend. To me, they are my definition of family and family is my ultimate inspiration.

Darlene, what a cool exercise, to create those cards - I'm going to get myself a set of index cards and do that this weekend. It sounds like a great way to reconnect with those special things that make us love the people in our lives.
Nice post - and I really like your collage. I'd love to hear the story behind those peeps cupcakes... ![]() |

Darlene,
Thanks so much for sharing this story-I really love the index card idea! Sometimes we get down because things may not be going our way, but when you do an exercise such as this one you see how much you have to be thankful for in life. Great post! |

Peep cupcakes: I have always loved to bake, mostly due to my grandmother who was always cooking and baking when I was a child. She loved to cook for the family. So do I. I made those particular cupcakes this past spring to bring to my brother's house for my nephews. The inspiration came from a picture in a magazine, a Youtube video and my husband's sister (who started her own cupcake business). After two trips to the grocery store and two more to the mall to get decorating tips and such...I produced those cupcakes.

Darlene,
You always come up with the most interesting comments and articles, for me it is always a struggle to share and then write in such a way as to convey exactly the tone and feeling I had intended. Thank you so much for sharing your soup!! Cheers!! |
