How do I remove comments completely from a wordpress blog?

Hi again, I don't think I explained myself clearly in my previous post, basically I'm using wordpress as a blogsite, so wanted to remove the comment box, so that they don 't appear on pages. I've now managed to do this, by deleting the comment php and some code from main index php, I have a feeling this is not entirely the right way to do it, so I'm hoping someone can point me the in the right direction.

Hi, I went in search of answers at the WP help pages and your solution seems to be the common approach. Is it not rendering the blog as you'd hoped?

My approach has worked for me but as a newbie learning to work with wordpress I thought I was doing something wrong especially when it comes to code.
