Re: Are you blogging?
If you are not sure where to start on blog topics, there is a system where in less than 10 minutes, you have 64 topics to write about. We did it in a Mastermind Group that I belong to and it was not only fun - but simply amazing that we had that many things we could write about!

Re: Are you blogging?
I've made a commitment to myself that with my new site will come a regular blog - even if it's only a couple of paragraphs!
I tend to have flashes of creativity (or is it hormones - maybe I'm on the wrong forum ), so when I'm in the mood I write a few posts in rough draft and save them for when I need them - I can edit in a non-creative mood if I have the bones of something to say...
I'm working on a series called "an hour's work" based loosely on the thread about what we can do in an hour, which I then want to mingle with some moans from "Minky" and some news-relevant stuff.
If I get to once a fortnight I'll consider it a success for now!
Feel free to have a look at my fairly slim pickings so far...

Re: Are you blogging?
I have a blog that I post VA/ online business starter helps. I only blog on Mondays. Should I blog more often?
When it comes to blogging, I have always thought that less is more, at least when it comes to fluff. I just put in the most important info and leave out the unimportant details. . .but I have to wonder. . . do people prefer the fluff?

Re: Are you blogging?
I'm definitely putting blogging on my list of things to do ... Kyle's system to generate 64 things sounds interesting ... it would be good to hear more about it.

Re: Are you blogging?
Tess- I am not blogging. (I do it enough for my clients ) I do have a blog on my site, however, and there are a few posts. I would really love to kick it up a notch! I should correct myself and say I'm not "actively" blogging. I read somewhere that 3-5 posts a week was the target. I know we all, as VAs, have some great info for business owners, perhaps we should ALL blog more

Re: Are you blogging?
I don't blog or twitter. I don't know if I could make a blog that is interesting or unique enough to bother. Twitter is just annoying.

Re: Are you blogging?
Susanne, I feel the same way! Although I've had a personnel Facebook thing going for over a year, this blogging and twitter stuff is completely foreign to me. I will definitely get a business FB thing up eventually, definitely not twitter, and right now, I'm not sure about a blog. I can see the possible positive exposure of blogging, but I need to research it a lot more first to see if I'd even have enough creativity and business-relevant information to blog about!

Re: Are you blogging?
I am wondering about blogging frequency.
Is once a week acceptable or is that too much. Do you think that clients expect daily blogging?

Re: Are you blogging?
Not yet, but I've been reading blogs to get a feel for subject matter. I recently read the blog of a well know VA (not a member here) and her blogs were mostly about how busy and tired she was and how one of her kids was sick ... really all about her personal life ... and I was really surprised. I'm sure a little humour, anecdote or something hilarious that happened to you would be well received, but not a blow by blow account of one's daily life. Any thoughts on just how much one should reveal and still retain a professional persona?

Re: Are you blogging?
I would assume that you would keep it 90% work related. Occasional insights to ones personal life is ok. I think that adds a sense of character and realness. When I say realness I mean not just some robot behind the desk type thing.
I would think that mentioning you were busy is a good thing, but I would think to never state how tired etc you are. As a prospective client, I would think that she is too busy to take on my work or wouldn't have the time to focus on my needs.

Re: Are you blogging?
I try to blog, but to be honest I am behind on my website because I also blog for my clients! I am not sure how to make more time to write for my business blog. I do blog on two other blogs that I own too (or try to keep them up to date.)
I am trying to monetize my blogs because it is another stream of income. Usually by sponsored blog posts, if I receive any requests. Sometimes requests are few and far between, so it's not a real big money maker at this point.

Re: Are you blogging?
I'm in the process of starting up my blog. I've been so busy lately that I've not even had time to check out VAF. So here I am again doing my research on blogs and looking around to get a feel of what's appropriate and not appropriate to put on blogs. Once it's up, I'll post the link and hopefully get some feedback.

Re: Are you blogging?
I blog regularly 3 times a week. I almost always do my blogs on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. If i miss one of those days then I will post the following day. But the good news is that once you get in the routine it does come easier.
As far as the frequency, the successful blogs I have seen do it at a minimum of 3 times per week. If you want subscribers you have to develop a routine or else I believe you will find yourself blogging for... well, yourself.
For topics, I tend to blog for realtors. Real estate is my niche, so that is who I write for. I get more of a response on Active Rain ( a real estate forum) than I do on my website, but I take heart in the fact that I am at least reaching my target market.
I hope I have answered some of your questions in regards to blogging. I am in no way an expert on this, but my answers are based on my own study of successful blogs.
