Hello Everyone! I was wondering, if I start my VA Blog... do I only write about business?? Or can I add posts about current events, daily life or "fun" topics??

I don't want it to look unprofessional.
Thank you for any advice!

What a great question! I too was (well, still am) in that uncertainty of blogging. I started blogging about my personal feelings with my business experiences. Not sure it's the way to go, but I'm not that focused at the moment to utilize my blogging to gain clients. I know that's probably not good advice. I simply enjoy the opportunity to write about something that is affecting me, especially something that is new to me and that I'm learning about.

I enjoy reading other blogs for the most part that are personal and that relate to me in some way or another. I recently found a blog on how to dress for work or for the heck of getting dressed up. Now, that isn't really associated with what I do in my transcription line of business. But it really was interesting on another level.

I say to blog about things that you love to write about. When there's passion in what you say, people will love to read about it. If you're just blogging to blog about something just to have a blog -- it may not be very interesting. And hence, no one will want to read it. I'm trying to create a monthly newsletter, which will be more client/business oriented. I just haven't gotten to that point yet

I hope I made sense from another new blogger to another!

Let me share how I do it. I have my main site, Redhead Business Solutions, when you go there it's strictly business, I talking about things that would be useful for my readers related to Wordpress, 1SC, and Aweber as well as Online Marketing since that is my focus.

I also have ReneeShupe.com at the moment this is more personal, I only write when it strikes me and it can be about anything.

Now, depending on how you want to focus your blog you can keep it all business, or you can have more personal stuff. My personal thoughts on it is go ahead and share personal aspects and stories on the blog, but keep them tied into your business in some aspect. Don't go too personal, if you want to do that start a personal blog.

Now if you are using Wordpress or pretty well any other blogging platform you can always delete a post down the road, but it can be cached (stored) somewhere and may come back at some point down the road, just something to think about. I have a new Blogging Tips series starting today on my blog so if you're new it might help. I think that this would be a great topic to add to the series! So thank you for that, I'm going to write a blog post about it at some point in the next few weeks.

I'd love to hear what others think....

I like the idea of having two separate blogs. It seems like a nice way to be professional and offer personal insights as well.

Try and keep it all on topic, it doesn't have to all be completely about your business/services but talk about the industry and interesting things you've read online and then relate it back to you (that's the hard part ;-) )
