Default My Client Wants to Use Typepad But I Never Used it Before
I have a dietitian client who has emailed me that she'd like to use typepad. She saw a colleague's blog here http://5secondrule.typepad.com:80/my_weblog/ and would like the same features.

I have not used typepad before. I've gone through some of the posts here which seem to rave more about wordpress.

I've gone to the typepad website but I cannot tell if the same features she is looking for will be a paid or free blog. Further, should I recommend wordpress over typepad?

I've only worked in blogger and that was about a year ago for another client.

Thank you for whatever information you can provide.

Jan

Typepad does not have a free option, it's all paid.

That being said, it's not expensive, and it's a great platform. I have three blogs on typepad, and I like it. It's not as flexible or feature-rich as wordpress, but you don't have to host it on your own server, hosting is included in the typepad package. You simply buy a domain, point it at the typepad site, and work within typepad. I like it. You don't even have to buy a domain if you don't want to, you can use the subdomain at Typepad.

Gee, I missed the mark on that one...I thought there was a free option. Glad I didn't misinform the client. Thanks for that heads-up.

What do you mean by not being as flexible or feature-rich as wordpress? This client will use many pictures of food items as she will use the blog to promote her cooking programs. Will typepad be limiting that way?

I think that if she wants to pay for a blog that I'd like to make a recommendation for the best bang for her buck. Do you think I should recommend paid typepad over paid wordpress?

Thanks.

Oh, she'll be able to get the template customized just as much as with WordPress, and yes, she can add all the pictures she wants too.

What I mean by customization is that with WordPress, you can put on all sorts of different addons. These can be great, if you know a lot about WordPress. Or confusing if you don't.

TypePad already has everything built in, and because of the way it's hosted, you can't put addons on there. But I really haven't found the need for them, as the service already pretty much covers everything that I'd need.

For ease of use, I'd actually recommend TypePad. WordPress, unless you find a service provider that offers automatic installation, has to be installed by someone, and that can be a hassle. I've done it, and depending on the server, it can be a real chore.

That's great information...

When you say that wordpress has to be installed by someone..do you mean installed in the client's website so the blog is accessible there?

Yup. Although there are hosting services that will do the installation for you/the client, making it a bit easier.
