I was asked to be a guest blogger on a popular site and I have what is probably a stupid question:

Is it okay to have the same post on my own blog or would that be improper? It also seems like it would be considered duplicate content by the search engines, right? (Blogging Etiquette and SEO are two topics that I'm not too familiar with, as you can probably tell! )

Yes, if you publish the same post in two places word-for-word it will be duplicate content and won't do you any favors in terms of SEO - it just lessens the search weight carried by the content, so you might want to just paraphrase and link up to it rather than republish it.

The etiquette aspect, I'd say would be up to the blog you're guest posting for - a quick request for permission to republish will clear that one up

I'll be doing a weekly guest post on Erin Blaskie's BSETC blog. It will be a variety of VA and internet related topics. I'm rather new to blogging, so it will be interesting to see how I do.
