Question Can a Typepad blog be transferred to a WP blog?
I was having a discussion with a blogger who uses the paid (Pro) version of Typepad.

I was trying to explain that having a domain specific to the blog was a better for SEO than using the typepad.com url that is provided. (The blogger has a real domain that is pointed to the Typepad blog but when I went to copy the link to one of her blog posts, the url is a Typepad url. )

The blogger told me that she cannot transfer her Typepad blog entries to WordPress.

So I wanted to check here to see if there were any other solutions other than manually copying and pasting blog posts from Typepad into WordPress.

Thanks,

Janine

Sure she can, Janine.

First, backup! I always backup to my computer, too, to be on the safe side.

This is for wordpress.ORG move...

Use the Import/Export feature in TypePad and save the exported file on your computer with a filename she'll remember. Use the Import/Export feature in Wordpress (.org) and select Movable Type and TypePad format. (This is a short version of how to do it )

Any images or uploaded files might need to be added manually to WP.org, and check your paths to these to make sure they are correct with any links within the posts, etc. (the links might need to be changed to point to the correct directory after the move).

HTH a bit,

Jules,

Great information as always. Thank you!

I have a request to transfer Blogger to WP as well and I see that this can be done using the Import/Export feature.

I had no idea.

Let me ask you this...she has a few people who are subscribed to the typepad blog. Will she lose the subscribers?

Thanks a heaps.

Janine

What did she use for subscribers?

If she used Feedburner, just update the source of the existing FeedBurner feed. (My Feeds > Edit Feed Details) It should be changed to the WordPress feed instead of Typepad.

Janine, please do note that you might have to port the blog from TP to WP - you know, all that fun pointing, etc. stuff, if this was a really active blog in TP. Pretty technical way to 'splain that, eh?

A quick reminder: don't forget to change all your internal links in WP that have anything related to 'typepad' in them after you do the move to WP.

Having fun yet?
