Default Blogger & Google Analytics
I have three blogs that I write, sort of. My two main ones (business and personal) are through WordPress and one of my VAs handles all the coding stuff. I just do the posts because that's all I can do in there without freaking out that I'll mess it up royally.

The third blog is VERY new and I started it in blogger. Not sure if I'll keep it there but for now that's where it is because I've figured out how to do all the set-up in blogger myself except this part. I want to add the code for Google Analytics to the page so I can see if I'm getting any traffic on it. I've tried but I guess I'm not so blogger minded as I thought (HA, that's a joke). I did what it said, copy and paste the code right above the /body code. But, it keeps telling me that the tracking code is not detected. What am I doing wrong? I'm being stubborn, I just want to do this one all on my own without paying someone else to do it. LOL

Now, while I'm on this topic...this blog is currently hosted on a blogspot page. I figure when I hit 10 posts then I'll get it a domain and move it. Is that going to screw me up? Should I get it now (I have four posts)?

I think, honestly, that I want to see my first page hit before I put out the $7 to get it it's own domain.

Thanks!

how long has it been saying that? It can take a few hours before it detects the code and starts collecting data. Did you republish it after you added it in the footer? That might be the problem too.

If you're going to move to a domain name you might as well do it now...

Just curious why you used blogger this time? Wordpress is a little more complicated but offers many more options for customization.

I did it either Friday or Monday...I think Friday and published it after it was entered. I checked late today so I would be sure it took.

I'll probably get the domain name soon and move it there. I've just been putting it off because I wasn't 100% sure of the name (still only 99% sure) and if I wanted to keep it up. If I get it its own domain then it's "real". (Silly, I know)

I like WordPress but it intimidates me for customization and I didn't feel like outsourcing the set-up of this one just yet. Besides, I found a free template that I liked that was for blogger so it made it easy. Honestly, blogger is very user friendly I can do whatever I want in there without having to ask for help. Sometimes I like being independent. If I had the time to figure out how to use WordPress myself I'd move it there, probably. But, I don't have the time to do that...if I'm going to blog I'd rather be posting rather than figuring out how to get the darn thing online. LOL

Whatever works for you, it's your blog. I used to use blogger and I agree it's much more user friendly. But wordpress isn't that bad with the thousands of free templates and plug-ins. The thing I really like about it though is the fact that you can schedule posts for the future. That's really what motivated my move from blogger to wordpress.

I'd ask in the blogger forums about the problem with GA. There might be a trick.

Lanel:

I say go for it and move the blog now to a domain name. It's one less thing to worry about and then you're head can be clear to just focus on blogging -- which in and of itself takes up a tremendous amount of time and energy. Also, should anyone link to it, they can link to a nice clean domain-based link rather than the long blogspot address.

And, please, and I say this from personal experience, if you have a domain name that you're interested in, buy it now! Don't wait. I've lost out on several domains because I didn't want to spend a few dollars at the time. Now, I don't wait.

Also, on some level, if you commit to buying a domain name for your blog, you're also saying to yourself that you're committing to your blog in a bigger way.

Congratulations on your involvement in blogging -- both personally and professionally.

Kind Regards,
Tara K

Darren Rowse of Problogger.net just published a book with Chris Garrett of ChrisG.com entitled Problogger: Secrets for Blogging Your Way to a Six-Figure Income. It's a fantastic book and I highly recommend it. You can also visit Darren's blog directly and find many different articles, suggestions, and tips for increasing traffic to your site.

Yes, definitely put the tracking code in the footer

Hopefully that should solve the problem.

OK, you twisted my arm. I bought the domain. Now if I could only figure out how to set up the nameservers without running for help. Oh well, at least I have someone that can help me quickly. I'm still on the fence about moving it to WordPress but am getting some advice. We'll see.

I do like that feature. But, I think I read somewhere that blogger just added that. I'm not sure, haven't tested it so I don't know if it actually works right -- it was sort of there before but didn't work. I do plan on writing my posts for this blog on the weekends so.... Too much to think about. Sometimes I need to think things all the way through before starting something.

Thanks for all your help!
