Default Blog Websites vs Regular Websites
I've seen you all talk about this along with several others and am curious....why use a Blog site such as Wordpress as you website versus the regular HTML stuff?

I'm sorta new to this blogging stuff and shouldn't be, but I'm trying to understand it all...one day! I'm trying to get out of the 'stone age' and into the new social media stuff - but it's been so HARD!

Thanks!

Leona

Well, blogsite is probably the wrong word for it but it gets the point across. Wordpress is used for this a lot now because it has CMS capabilities. CMS = Content Management System. You can literally just login and edit/add data and image and publish - very easy to use. And if the site is done in Wordpress (or another similar program) then you can have both static pages (like a traditional website) and blogposts (like a normal blog). So you have the best of both worlds in the one program.

Wordpress (and Blogger) are easy to use for those who have no website knowledge and the only costs you're up for are these: Domain name, Webhosting and possibly the design of a template or someone modifying the template for you to personalise it and make it your own. However, there are tens of thousands of free templates out there and chances are you might find one that suits your needs without having to modify it and without finding every other person is using it too.

The beauty of using Wordpress (and Blogger) is that Google and other search engines love this software and will recognise a new post or new site within 10 mins of it being published, however a traditional site can take a good 4-6 weeks before the search engines pick it up.

Hope that helps?

If you get your own hosting then Wordpress is the way to go, but if not, then Blogger is the way to go and get your own domain diverted to it.

Thanks Kathie - I've started a blog in Blogger and think I'll let a local company building my website for me and add the links that way.

There are a lot of free website templates that you can download, and even more information on the internet to help you with building your own website. At first it can seem a bit overwhelming, but quite fun once you get into it!

Thank you Kathie for that great explanation! After working with WordPress for just a couple of hours I can see it's appeal.
