Default Allowing "Anyone to Register" on WordPress
Can anyone provide a little insight on what pros or cons - or specific benefits there are in selecting "Anyone Can Register" under Membership in the General Section of Settings?

Lots of information out there on what it does and allows, from a technical perspective - but nothing that I can find that says why one would want to do this or why one would not.

Thanks much!
Pam

If you're running a site or blog that encourages it's visitors to contribute , you'd use this feature to allow them to create their own profile and give them access to create new posts, add pictures, etc.
My thoughts on this is unless you're doing the above type of site, there's not really a need to have this enabled. If you need to give someone access you can always create a user for them then let them flesh out their profile once that's done if they want or need to. The fewer people that have access to the 'backend' of your site the better.

What are your objectives for your blog?

Do you have the time to keep it fresh and exciting?

If you have the time to do 2 or 3 entries a week and keep people coming back for more then you should go it alone but if it gets stale with no updates for 2 or 3 weeks then you might want to consider letting other (very select) people helping you publish articles.

There are many people who have great ideas for articles but maybe not enough of them to justify a full time blog - those people deserve their corner of cyber space and if you can provide them that for free, while still adding value to your visitors then that is a good thing (tm Martha Stewart)

Thank you for the explanation, Tina Marie.

I think I prefer the "guest post" method in allowing the content of someone else on a blog that I had developed for my own business's site.
