Re: 12/2008 Interview with Deirdre Shockley of Deirdre's Virtual Office
Hi Daneille,
The first thing I did when I decided start my business was read until I dreamed about the VA business. I spent hours reading the posts on forums and the articles that are posted. Then OIVAC began so I spent a bit of money and took 3 seminars and made sure that I was present and participated in all of the networking chats. At this time I wasn't really interested in working with another VA I just wanted to learn as much as I could from the seasoned VAs.
My advice to you is to join and participate in forums, live chats, live voice chats, and attend OIVAC. You want the VAs to know who you are, what your skill set is and that you are trustworthy enough to be trusted with the clients that they worked hard to find. I find it very humbling when I'm trusted to do a job for another VA because not only am I trying to make the client look good, I also have a great responsibility to make the VA's business shine as well.
I guess the bottom line is let the VA community get to know you and what you have to offer.
Hope this helps.
Deirdre
