Default BOOK REVIEW - Copywriting 101 for Small Businesses, Entrepreneurs, Coaches...
Copywriting 101 For Small Businesses, Entrepreneurs, Coaches & Consultants: The do-it-yourself guide to writing your marketing copy correctly, persuasively and stresslessly by Allison Nazarian is a great how-to guide for small business owners who want great copy but don’t have the desire or budget to hand the job off to a professional copywriter.

Copywriting 101 covers the basics of copywriting in a way that is easy to understand even for those who are brand new to writing their own copy. Nazarian pushes you to hone in on your target audience, find your own unique writing style, and determine the way you will approach your potential clients (yes, there is more than one way), all within the first few chapters. She also gives homework assignments at the end of each chapter to help you apply her methods directly to your business.

Copywriting 101 walks readers through the process of writing different web pages, including the About Us and Product/Service descriptions, in a way that will elicit greater response from readers. Nazarian also touches on using well-placed testimonials but stresses that it’s not enough to just have testimonials on your site – they need to be written in a way that will convince readers to buy from you, based on the experiences of others. She teaches you how to accomplish this feat, especially if your clients allow you to write your own testimonials (with their final blessing, of course).

A few other hot marketing pieces that Nazarian teaches you to use to your benefit are taglines and strong calls to action.

In the final chapter, Nazarian shows readers the difference between writing for the web and writing for print and how to get the biggest bang for your buck in either format.

Finally, the Appendix is full of useful tips and information, including a list of action verbs that are great to use in your marketing copy and a list of phrases that you should avoid at all costs.
