I always try to be aware of how my written words can be interpreted (or misinterpreted) by another and so while I may use abbreviated language with close friends on Skype, you won't see it in my forums posts, website or blog (at least I hope I don't!!). I network online and just as I wouldn't use inappropriate language in a networking or chamber meeting in real life, I wouldn't use anything but correct language, grammar and spelling online. (Must be the school teacher in me!)
