I think that if you are considering sub-contracting this is definitely a viable option. However, you must do your due dilligence. I have learned from experience not to just take someone at their word because they are a VA. Talk to the VA community about the person for whom you are considering sub-contracting with, and ask them for references from other VA's they have sub-contracted. Protect yourself and your business. As it has been pointed out to me just because they are a VA does not mean they are not a client. So keep that mindset and protect yourself and your business.
