Default Would you pay commission?
A couple weeks ago I attended a local networking seminar. The speaker was a nice lady who speaks about attitudes and positive reinforcement, that kind of thing, I know she speaks all over the country. We talked after the meeting and she said she was happy to have met me because she needed another VA. We exchanged info and that was that.

Today she called me, not to hire me but to refer me to another client of hers. Here is my question, she said right up front "I have a client I would like to refer to you for 20% of your income (from this client) for the next year." I was a little taken back by her statement because in the past, I have paid a referral fee but not a kickback (basically thats what it is) for a whole year. She said, "I would like to refer people to you so basically you dont have to market, and I will refer you, I have lots of clients." She said the other VA she works with is too busy to take any more referrals, thats why she's calling me.

I dont know why but this just sounded fishy to me. My first instinct was to say thanks but no thanks... but then I thought, people pay for marketing all the time....is this kosher, would I do this if I were in her shoes?

What would you do? Im confused
