I hear you - and I do understand...not trying to second-guess your decision at all I just imagine myself in that situation and I think I would have had to say something to let him know how I felt. And knowing me I would have walked out angry never to return again.

It isn't really the $30 but the principle of the thing. He sent out coupons. Your purchase qualified. He didn't honor it. Why on earth not?

Either way it's bad business, and I'm sorry you got the 'short end of the stick' on that. Definitely a lesson to carry into our own businesses though.

Recently I've had a few customer service disasters where I was on the receiving end of bad service and each time I thought to myself - I would NEVER get away with that with my own clients! Not that I'd want to... but sometimes it's just appalling what passes for business or service these days.
