I am a Notary Public and as in any business, as long as you market yourself you will get calls. Marketing is key!! To attorneys, pediatricians, jails/prisons, schools, retirement homes, senior centers and of course the internet. Per notarization you will not make a living but (depending on your state laws) it may be profitable as you may be able to charge mobile fees. I have set it aside for the time being but before it expires I will be renewing. Currently I am just working on getting my VA business going.
